Massage Therapy Techniques
I am trained in many types of massage therapy. More often than not, some combination of these techniques are used during each massage treatment:
Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), sometimes referred to as Neuromuscular Massage, is a type of soft tissue manipulation that balances the central nervous system with the musculoskeletal system. NMT is a deep form of body work that treats the many causes of acute pain, postural disorders and soft tissue damage. It can often be helpful with back pain relief as well as improving joint health.
Fascial Release
Fascial Release is a safe and very effective technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the fascial tissue in order to eliminate physical restrictions such as adhesions to muscle fibers. This results in decreased pain and increased range of motion.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Massage specifically focuses on the deeper layers of the muscles where tension, stiffness and pain occur. A variety of strokes are used in order to reduce adhesions and help relieve chronic pain.
Trager Technique
The Trager Technique utilizes gentle, non-intrusive, natural movements that help release deep-seated physical and mental patterns and facilitate deep relaxation, increased physical mobility, and mental clarity.
Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage uses specific types of long and short strokes that always move toward the heart and focus on improving the muscular, nervous, circulatory, digestive, respiratory, and lymphatic systems. This technique can be incorporated for relaxation, as well as to warm muscles in preparation for a deeper massage.
Russian Massage
Russian Massage involves slow, soft motions alternated with very quick shaking motions. This massage method also uses friction to generate heat within the muscles, allowing them to soften more quickly.
Sports Massage
Sports Massage is a specialized form of massage that focuses on sports performance improvement. It helps release muscle tension and promote healthy tissue repair. Sports massage is often used to improve performance and prevent injury associated with physical activity.
Trigger Point Therapy
Trigger Point Massage or Trigger Point Therapy uses cycles of isolated pressure and release along with deep breathing to find and work on a specific trigger point. Trigger points can radiate from one point to another often causing pain in an unrelated area. This type of massage can lead to a significant decrease in pain after just once visit.
